The Smithtown East basketball team advanced to the Suffolk County playoffs for the third time in five seasons by winning their last two games aganist North Babylon(68-58) and Hills East (61-42) respectively during the week of 2/08/10.
The Bulls played #2 seeded Longwood on 2/19 in front of a large crowd at Longwood. Seniors, Andrew Castello(All League), Adam Hull(All County-Academic) and Alex Gray(White Letter) provided leadership for the Bulls and their fellow sophmore starters of Dan Thixton and Jon Feiler(All League). The Bulls put up fight as they pulled within five points with just under two minutes in the first half on a three ball by sophmore Mike Modugno(9 points). The high powered Lions' offensive which averaged over 95 ppg. proved to much for the young Bulls who played as many four sophmores together at one point in the game. The final score was 80-58.
Alex Gray dazzled the Longwood and East fans with a game high of 19 points. Jon Feiler chipped with in yet another double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Dan Walsh provided hard play and hustle playing the 6th man, something that he did the entire season.
