Specialties:Promotes a transition style with a 1-3-1, 1/2 ct. pressure defense. Employs a variety of motion sets with a inside and outside attack. He has been on the Villanova University basketball camp staff since 1979. He started the Smithtown Booster Club basketball camp in 1990. It has grown to as many as 250 campers, as of the summer of 2009. Coach Gambeskis' teams have won over 300 games. He has been  selected to be a member of the American Athletic Institutes' advisory board and will be a trainer in the institutes' "Life of an Athlete" program. This program promotes alcohol and drug free athletics for high school, college and professional teams through educational workshops and presentations.

Summary:
Lou Gambeski was a Health Eduction teacher from 1973 to 2006 in the Smithtown Central Schools. He also served as the Health coordinator from 1987 to 2004. He has coached varsity basketball in Smithtown since 1980. His teams have over 270 wins, begining at Smithown East  from 1980 to 1992 and then later at Smithtown H.S from 1993 to 2005. He returned to Smithtown East after the schools split, as of the 2005-06 season. He also coaches varsity girls tennis and varsity boys tennis. Coach Gambeski was a trainer for the NYSPHSAA's chemical health committe from 1990 to 2004 and established the "On Target: Developing Drug and Alcohol free leadership program"(Positive Edge) in Smithtown. This program trained teachers, coaches, students and parents in strategies to promote drug and alcohol free teams. He has recently(2007) joined the American Athletic Institute, as a trainer/educator. This a private agency, which promotes alcohol and drug free athletics. His wife Susan is a middle school math teacher in the Miller Place school district. He has three children. Gannon(Clarkson University class of 2004 /aeronautical engineering), who is a aero space engineer on Long Island. Kiera Leigh is a preschool special education teacher,  who played field hockey at Radford University,Va. (class of 2006) and Kellen (class of 2008) a senior business major at Nazareth College, N.Y and played  four years of  varsity volleyball .He is currently a finanical advisor in the Rochester, NY area.
